Teams from the Organized Crime Division of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) made two arrests and seized a total of five firearms last night during two separate police operations in downtown Montreal and the West Island.
As part of an investigation that began last March, investigators from the Narcotics West Team apprehended a 30-year-old suspect at his Dollard-des-Ormeaux residence last night at approximately 9:45 p.m. Simultaneous searches of his vehicle and an apartment controlled by him in Dorval resulted in the seizure of two handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun, three magazines, multiple rounds of ammunition of various calibers, cocaine and various narcotic pills. Over $260,000 in cash was also recovered at the scene.
The second event occurred near the intersection of Stanley Street and St. Catherine Street West at approximately 2:00 a.m. Police officers from the ECLIPSE unit, through their observations, were able to detect an armed individual walking on the street. Checks revealed two loaded 9 mm handguns inside the bag carried by the suspect. The suspect, who is 24 years old, was arrested on the spot.
The suspects apprehended in these two separate events are expected to appear at the Montreal Courthouse by tomorrow to face several charges.
Anyone with information can call 911 or their local station.
