The series of arson attacks on cars continues as three vehicles were reduced to scrap metal overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in L’Île-Bizard, Montreal.
Around 3:45 am, the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) received the first call reporting several vehicles on fire on private property on Laurier Street, near Chevrier Boulevard.
Moments later, another call reported an explosion heard in the same area, according to SPVM spokesperson Mariane Allaire-Morin. When officers arrived, three vehicles were ablaze, with a strong smell of accelerant in the air.
Though the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) managed to extinguish the fires, the vehicles were heavily damaged and deemed total losses.
Surveillance cameras reportedly captured the scene, with two suspects seen fleeing at the onset of the fire, Allaire-Morin added.
The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM's arson section, which will send investigators to analyze the scene during the morning. They will determine the exact circumstances surrounding this latest vehicle-targeted arson, which resulted in no injuries or arrests.
Four vehicles were already set ablaze overnight from Monday to Tuesday in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area, following another fire in Montreal-North the day before.
