At the Council meeting of January 17, 2023, City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to preserve the bilingual status of the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux. On January 31, 2023, the Government of Quebec acknowledged receipt of Resolution N o 23 0117 and officially declared that the bilingual status will be maintained.
Dollard-des-Ormeaux obtained its first official bilingual status in April 1978. With no language barrier, residents can use the City's services in both English and French. The bilingual status also allows the City to maintain the right to post and communicate with its residents in both recognized languages.

The council members have successfully ensured the continuity of services to the population in both official languages.
"We are very pleased with the news that will allow us to maintain our City's bilingual status. The council and I are proud to celebrate Dollard-des-Ormeaux's linguistic richness. While we appreciate the efficiency and speed of response from the Office québécois de la langue française, we are still concerned that we must follow this procedure to maintain, what I personally consider, the inherent right of our residents, to receive communications in the language of their choice", said Mayor Bottausci in a statement upon receiving the news from the government of Quebec.
This decision concludes the file on bilingual status after receiving an initial letter from the Office québécois de la langue française indicating that the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux would no longer meet the condition required by section 29.1 of the Charter of the French Language (RLRQ, c. C 11).
