On April 22nd, Quebec lost a true legend. In 2019, Guy Lafleur was diagnosed with lung cancer which he tragically succumbed to last Friday.
Hockey lovers across the province and across the nation have been reeling at the loss of a true hockey icon.
Lafleur, who played a whopping 14 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens was the number one pick in the NHL draft in 1971.
In a tweet made on April 24th, Quebec Premier François Legault announced that the province will host a National Funeral honoring the NHL star.
"With the blessing of his family, Guy Lafleur will have a national funeral", said Legault.
The memorial will take place on Tuesday, May 3rd at 11:00 am at the Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral.
On may 1st from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and May 2nd from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, Guy Lafleur will lie in state at Montreal's Bell Centre to allow members of the public to pay their respects.
