Quebec Expands Bottle Return Program: What You Need to Know
As of March 1, 2025, Quebec’s bottle deposit system has undergone a major expansion, making it easier for residents to recycle and earn refunds. A 10-cent deposit now applies to all plastic bottles between 100 millilitres and two litres, extending beyond the previous system, which only covered soft drink bottles. This change is expected to bring 1.2 billion additional plastic containers into the recycling stream each year.

Previously, only soft drink bottles were eligible for a refund. Now, a wide range of plastic beverage containers—including water, juice, iced tea, sports drinks, and more—fall under the deposit program.
