🚨 **Tragic Fatal Collision in Verdun: Driver Charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death** 🚨
On Friday evening around 7:30 p.m., a devastating crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Sylvain Martel in Verdun. Martel was driving north on Richard St. when his car was struck by an eastbound pickup truck on Bannantyne Ave. The impact flipped Martel’s car onto the front lawn of a residential building, damaging a metal fence. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 30-year-old Kyle Joshua Monast of Pointe-Claire, allegedly tried to flee but was apprehended by police. Monast now faces charges of impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
⚖️ Monast appeared in court on Monday and remains in custody. His next court date is set for December 10.
This isn't Monast’s first impaired driving charge—he was already facing similar charges from an October 2023 incident, with a court date scheduled for March 2024.
Our thoughts are with Sylvain Martel’s loved ones during this difficult time. Let’s all work together to keep our roads safe.
