October is chockablock with fun family activities, informational seminars, workshops, and entertainment at different Pointe-Claire facilities. You can find something to keep everyone engaged and entertained as fall settles in.

CULTURE DAYS: NASR & THORPE -

A MUSICAL JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD!

Sunday, October 2, 3 p.m.

Intimate concert. Multi-instrumentalists Ariana Nasr and Curtis Thorpe have been performing as a duo for more than five years. Ariana specializes in French chanson, notably the songs of Édith Piaf, and jazz classics. With her captivating voice and embracing multiple languages, the duo spans continents.

TALK AND WORKSHOP: INTERLOCKING SURFACES

Thursday, October 6, 2 to 4 p.m. (in English)

With artist Kara Skylling

Come meet the artist Kara Skylling to discover her practice and participate in a hands-on workshop. Once introduced to her body of work, the artist will invite you to create your own piece. During this talk and workshop, Kara Skylling will explore the geometry of joining two-dimensional drawings through tabs and folds inspired by wood construction and joinery as well as paperboard and boxes.

TRAVEL LECTURE: LES GRANDS MUSÉES DU MONDE OCCIDENTAL ET LEURS TRÉSORS

Introduction to the general concepts that define and structure the museum field. A presentation followed by a tour of the impressive museums of Paris, Italy, and Spain, not to mention a slight detour via Mexico.

YEARNING FOR THE ROOTS WITH FREDRIC GARY COMEAU

Intimate concert. Bamboo has the blues. It is yearning for its roots. From this was born a project that combines music and poetry, Japanese sounds, and blues atmospheres. Poetry through voice and the spoken word, blends with guitars, shakuhachi, and urban drum rhythms. This is a sacred journey that leads us from the Zen-like Japanese countryside to vibrating urban centres, all the while channeling the spirit of the Deep South, and the great Mississippi River.

TALK: PUTTING THE GARDEN TO BED WITH WANDA MITKIEWICZ

Wednesday, October 12, 7 to 8:30 p.m. (in English)

We invite new and interested gardeners to come learn what to do in the garden in the fall. This includes what plants can be brought in to overwinter in the house and save money, what to do with bulbs that need to be brought in and how to store them, the planting of tulip, daffodil and crocus bulbs, composting of spent flowers, and which plants to leave for winterscape.

CINÉ-ART: AYITI CHÉRIE – A SCREENING OF SHORTS FROM FILMINISTES FESTIVAL

Directors represented: Miryam Charles, Carmine Pierre-Dufour, Nitsé Mathelier, Rachelle Salnave and Marie-Claude Fournier.

Ayiti Chérie is a screening that puts forward various perspectives of Haitian artists on their identity, realities, and experiences. Addressing family relationships, racism, nostalgia, and first and second-generation immigration, this event will highlight these talented directors' cinematographic and artistic choices in collaboration with the Filministes festival and le Conseil des arts de Montréal.

As part of Public Library Week, les Bibliothèques des banlieus de l’Île de Montréal (BBIM) is proud to present an interview (broadcast from New York), animated by Maxime D.-Pomerleau, with Marc Levy, international best-selling author, who will discuss of his career and of his most recent book, Noa. WORKSHOP: WET FELTING FLOWER

Friday, October 14, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

With Doris White. All the basic information and skills to learn the technique of wet felting and create a beautiful flower. This method of felting uses soap, warm water and agitation to tangle fibres together to create felt. No prior experience needed. Bring a towel.
