No sliding at Beaconsfield Golf Course this year. New X country ski path for PC residents only

A new cross-country skiing and hiking trail at the Beaconsfield Golf Club has been set up as as a new outdoor activity for Pointe-Claire citizens to enjoy this winter.

“We are committed to constantly improving the municipal services available to our residents, and this pilot project is part of that commitment. In the context of the pandemic that we are all facing, this is another opportunity to be active and enjoy nature and the joys of winter close to home. We hope that there will soon be snow and that winter conditions will be favourable to these activities,” the mayor said.

The two-kilometre loop course will be set up on the grounds of the Beaconsfield Golf Club for classic cross-country skiing and nature walks from Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The course will be open as soon as enough snow has covered the ground.

This activity is reserved for Pointe-Claire residents on presentation of a MULTI Card and is offered free of charge. Registration is mandatory at the entrance of the course, on Cartier Avenue.

Mayor Belvedere explained in a phone conversation with the West Island Blog that due to COVID-19 protocols the cross country trails will only be open to Pointe Claire residents this year but hopes to be able to expand the offering to non-residents in the coming years.

"We have to have two staff on hand at all times," he explained. "This is a costly endeavour for our residents. The bill is close to $60,000. We also need to be able to keep everyone safe, that is the top priority in this trying times."

Stay tuned for the opening announcement on the City’s social media accounts. The condition of the ski trail will also be updated regularly on the Outdoor Rinks and Cross-Country Skiing page.
