A short-stay inpatient mental health unit is now open in the modular building at the Lakeshore General Hospital.
The opening of this unit signals the partial return of psychiatric care to the Hospital. This project is in line with our efforts to ease Emergency Department bottlenecks and improve the flow of patient care.
Located near the Emergency, this unit was designed to meet the specific needs (short-term stays, emergency consultations, etc.) of certain clienteles.
There are several advantages to having this unit, including the optimization of discharge planning activities and patient care management. It will help reduce wait times as well as the average length of stays in the Emergency.
This unit will also enable us to ensure proximity services in mental health for West Islanders in a safe setting.
