Government Professionals Strike: Evening and Weekend Work Halted

The 5,850 members of the Syndicat des professionnels du gouvernement du Québec (SPGQ) have begun an evening and weekend strike, limiting their working hours to 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.

These professionals handle key responsibilities such as investigations, taxation, IT, and supporting businesses and individuals. SPGQ President Guillaume Bouvrette explained that, although the strike is limited to evenings and weekends, it could still have significant impacts.

For example, IT updates and system maintenance often take place outside regular working hours to avoid disrupting daily operations. Similarly, employees frequently travel for work and conduct inspections at bars and restaurants during evenings or weekends.

The main issues in the dispute are salary indexation and wage parity clauses, also known as "remorque clauses."

Revenu Québec has declined to comment on the matter.
