Former Impact players to face off in D.D.O. charity soccer this Saturday

The latest chapter in the International Cup Kids Playing for Kids’ (“ICKPK”) all-star soccer charity game – the ‘Match des Étoiles’ – is set to take place on Saturday, August 20 at 11:30 am on the Glenn Francis McHugh field in Dollard-des-Ormeaux Park. Two former Montreal Impact greats, Patrice Bernier and Hassoun Camara will play against each other in this friendly match-up opposing Team Canada to Team France, including a special guest appearance by James Pantemis, goalkeeper of the CF Montréal.

The ICKPK presents this unique event designed to bring together various public figures in an effort to raise funds for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Sainte-Justine CHU Foundation, and the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Year after year, the ICKPK’s ‘Match des Étoiles’ has succeeded in getting various athletes, public figures, and elected officials on a soccer field so that children in and around Montreal may continue to benefit from the latest discoveries and the highest standards of pediatric medicine.

More than just a game

Life has become increasingly more challenging for children who fall ill. The global pandemic has exacerbated the need for better-equipped hospitals and a more resilient health care system at home and abroad. The money raised from the Match des Étoiles will be entirely donated to the three children’s hospitals in the Montreal metropolitan area. Every single dollar donated will go to the hospitals’ foundations to fund and support research and innovation in pediatric care.

“It’s truly heartwarming to see so many incredible people come together to improve the lives of sick children. We need this support now more than ever”, expressed Kim Fraser, Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Community Relations at The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. “On behalf of our team at the Hospital and all the families, thank you for all your hard work, year after year!” Fraser exclaimed.

“Knowing that we can make a difference in the lives of brave children by coming together to play a friendly game of soccer is a no-brainer for me. It’s an honor to be a part of this great initiative,” said Patrice Bernier.

Created in 2006, the International Cup Kids Playing for Kids is a non-profit organization

actively pursuing its dual mission of promoting diversity and inclusion through the game of

soccer while campaigning to raise funds for the foundations of the three children’s hospitals on the island of Montreal. Over the years, the ICKPK has raised and donated more than $500,000 to these foundations in an effort to combat childhood illness.
