Pharmaceutical company Merck Canada's office building in Kirkland was the site of a fire early Monday morning. The police intervened after firefighters found an incendiary device in the front entrance and the front door window had been smashed. Véronique Dubuc, a spokesperson for the SPVM, stated that there were no significant damages and nobody was injured.
The SPVM's arson squad will examine the building's surveillance footage to establish how the fire began and seek potential witnesses.
The squad is also investigating another fire that broke out early this morning in Pierrefonds. The duplex on Gouin Boulevard West near Richmond Street is facing significant damages, and an 84-year-old woman is in-hospital for smoke inhalation.
