Tragedy struck early Thursday morning in Montreal's West Island as a construction site worker lost their life in a devastating incident. The unfortunate event occurred at 3:15 a.m. on a construction site situated along Highway 40 in Pointe-Claire.
According to law enforcement authorities, it appears that an unoccupied construction vehicle unexpectedly began to move on its own, tragically colliding with a man in his 30s who was walking alongside the roadway. The impact caused critical injuries to the worker, who was promptly transported to the hospital. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
In the wake of this incident, two lanes on the highway have been temporarily closed to traffic to facilitate the thorough investigation being conducted by Quebec provincial police's accident reconstruction team. Additionally, Quebec's workplace safety board, the CNESST, is conducting its own investigation into this tragic event.
