A Miracle At Zoo De Granby!

Hope, The Critically Endangered Amur Leopard Gives Birth To Two Cubs.

West Island News is happy to share that The Zoo de Granby's Amur leopard, Hope, gave birth to 2 cubs just last Friday! The Zoo has announced the babies were born a little over 2 hours apart at 2:40 and 4:54 am.

On their official website, the zoo states "The mother is kept in isolation with her two offspring but with a round-the-clock camera surveillance which allows us to make sure all is going well." According to Karl Fournier, director of animal care “These births are considered to be a great success for our Ex-Situ conservation efforts of the species and are perceived as being a true miracle!”

This is truly a miracle as the WWF currently lists the species as 'Critically Endagered' with about only 90 adults left in the wild. Needless to say, the births come as a huge breakthrough for the zoo as they now have 5 Amur leopards living on site.
