The Nutcracker is a classic story and collection of music that for many, represents Christmas, family, and love. For families across the globe, it is an annual tradition to look forward to with loved ones. For dancers of all styles, levels, and ages, it is the culmination of a season’s worth of work.

Dance schools all across the West Island and the world were forced to put productions of The Nutcracker on hold in 2020 and are finally getting the chance to grace the stage once more this year. The Academy of Classical Ballet and Modern Dances in Moncton, New Brunswick is no different.

This year, the New Brunswick cast had a special guest grace the stage in the lead role of the Prince. West Island’s very own Alessandro Nicolosi.

The Academy puts on a production of the classic tale with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky every year at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton. This year, Alex Francoeur – a Quebec dancer and choreographer – was unable to fill the role, and reached out to 16-year-old Nicolosi.

“Alessandro said yes of course, and next thing we knew he was on stage performing the role of the Prince/Nutcracker,”
said Nicolosi’s father.

Performances took place on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of December.

Nicolosi has been dancing since he was eleven years old, and has even won awards in the competitive dance scene. Recently, he made it to the televised audition round of TVA’s competitive dance series, Révolution.

Nicolosi's appearance in the Nutcracker was his first time on the Capitol stage. Moreover, it was his first time on any stage since the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

On behalf of the team at West Island News, we are sending a huge congratulations to Alessandro and the entire company of the Nutcracker!
