6 Unusual Hacks to Get Your Laundry Super Clean

Updated: May 24, 2023

The smell and feel of fresh laundry are almost unbeatable, especially when you cozy up in bed at night, and it smells beautiful. However, sometimes there’s a stain or an odour that seems impossible to get rid of, and we may even throw the item away because of it.

Stop right there! Before you head to the trash to throw it out, are you sure you’ve tried everything possible to get it clean again? Sure, you may have bought a unique formula from the store or scrubbed and scrubbed to no avail, but there are a few more things you can try. Let’s take a closer look at some unusual yet incredibly useful washing tools to save you splashing out on a new bit of clothing or bedding unnecessarily.

Vinegar

The thought of your clothes smelling of vinegar probably doesn’t appeal to you, but don’t worry. The odour doesn’t hang around, and it can really spruce up those dirty items. It works well on smelly items that may have gone musty like bath towels. It’ll also be cleaning out the nooks and crannies of your machine at the same time!

Baking Soda

We often hear of this miracle worker as it’s true that it has so much to offer! It’s superb for making your whites and lights come out extra sparkling. It’s also useful for getting rid of stubborn stains. Mix it with water to form a paste and rub it onto the stain. Leave it till you wash the clothes, and it should have done an excellent job.

Tobacco

Smoking is becoming less and less frequent, thankfully, but what’s going to happen with all those who work on tobacco plantations. We may have the answer. The leaves can do wonders for your laundry! It looks like it may be making its way into detergent recipes soon. This articleexplains how it works.

Salt

Finally, something that everyone will have lying around their kitchen. Salt is perfect for getting out tough stains, especially ones that are greasy, which can often happen in the kitchen. Putting salt onto the stain should soak up the grease. You may need to try it a few times before it’s perfectly clean again, so don’t give up.

Rubbing Alcohol

Something else a lot of us have lying around is rubbing alcohol. It’s yet another super stain remover but works best for ink stains or pen marks. Dab it on and let it sit on the stain. Over time you should be able to sponge the stain out of it, and with further washing in the machine, it should disappear.

Mouthwash

If you or someone in your home suffer from stinky feet, mouthwash could be the answer. Your socks are full of bacteria and fungi that need to be diminished. Add a cup to your cycle, and it should make any bad odour go away and keep them in a fresher state for a few washes to come.

Make Laundry Exciting

We’re serious; these techniques can make laundry enjoyable! It’s lovely to see those once stained or smelly pieces come out like new. Give them a go and see if they work for you, we know they will.
