Last night (March 27th, 2022) was the 94th Academy Awards hosted by Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. The trio led the way through some pop culture references and jokes, some not taken very well. Here's a roundup of everything you need to know about what happened at the Oscars 2022.
Performances
There were 5 performances at the Oscars, opening with Beyoncé singing her original song "Be Alive" featured in the movie King Richard. She appeared with dancers in bright yellow costumes at a bright yellow tennis court in Compton, California.
Two songs from the Oscar-winning animated movie Encanto were performed. 'Dos Oruguitas' sung by Columbian singer Sebastián Yatra and 'We don't talk about Bruno', performed by the cast of Encanto featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
Reba McEntire sang the nominated song 'Somehow you Do' from the movie Four Good Days and Billie Eilish and singer-songwriter FINNEAS performed the chilling song 'No Time To Die' from the Oscar-nominated James Bond film of the same name.
Notable Moments
There were a few moments from the show that made the normally lengthy spectacle less repetitive, especially the moment everyone is talking about, the Will Smith and Chris Rock feud.
Comedian Chris Rock went onto the stage to present the award for Best Documentary and made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith that the couple did not take well. Will Smith took his anger out by walking up onto the stage to then slap Chris Rock and continued to yell. Check out the footage below!
On a more wholesome note, Lady Gaga accompanied Liza Minelli while presenting the award for Best Picture. Liza Minelli seemed uncertain while flipping through her cue cards but Lady Gaga reassured her by whispering in her ear "I got it". See the heartwarming clip below
